Conviction of a Student Activist to 3 Years in Prison and Additional Punishments

Hasti Amiri, a student activist at Allameh Tabataba’i University, has been sentenced by the judiciary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to three years of imprisonment, a monetary fine of 53,300,000 tomans, and supplementary punishments including a two-year travel ban and a two-year prohibition on membership in political groups or organizations.

Amiri announced on her Instagram page that the verdict was issued in absentia and was officially communicated to her on Sunday, August 17, 2025.

Earlier, on April 25, 2025, this activist was arrested after appearing at the Security Prosecutor’s Office (Shahid Moghaddas) to be informed of her charges. Due to delays in the bail process, she was transferred to the women’s ward of Evin Prison. On Monday, April 27, 2025, she was released from prison after posting bail in the amount of 1.5 billion tomans.

According to reports, on March 6, 2025, agents of the Ministry of Intelligence raided Amiri’s home, confiscated her personal belongings, and announced the opening of a new judicial case against her. Amiri had previously also been arrested and sentenced for protesting against death penalty verdicts and for advocating women’s rights.
