Morteza Ne’mati, a former professor at Chamran University of Ahvaz and a vocal critic of Iran’s academic environment, announced that he has been sentenced to pay a monetary fine on the charge of “spreading falsehoods.”

Ne’mati shared the news in a post on his personal Instagram account, where he also published part of his payslip and criticized what he called “a regime of lies governing the universities.” In his post, he wrote:
“Over the past three years since I was forced to resign from my academic position, I have documented the system of lies and ideological inquisition. The most accurate term I can find for this style of governance is: the rule of lies.”

The former professor also criticized the financial management, insurance calculations, and deduction methods reflected in his payslip, referencing the vague details therein. In the final part of his statement, with a sarcastic tone, he described his sentence as a contribution “toward funding the twelve-day war with Israel.”

It is worth noting that this conviction follows Ne’mati’s critical activities regarding the state of university governance and his public writings on the mismanagement of the country’s academic system.
