Ehsan Faridi, a 22-year-old student of Manufacturing Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Tabriz, who was sentenced to death several months ago by Branch Three of the city’s Revolutionary Court on the charge of “ifsad fil-arz” (commonly translated as “corruption on earth”), now faces the imminent risk of execution.

Faridi was arrested on 29 Khordad 1403 after presenting himself to Branch 15 of the investigative unit of the General and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office in Tabriz and was subsequently transferred to prison. His death sentence was issued in Bahman of the same year. According to reports, the ruling rested on security reports and the prosecutor’s indictment. Relatives of the political prisoner say that neither his own defense nor his lawyer’s arguments were given due consideration during the proceedings. The student’s family say they have been subjected to security pressures and warned not to publicize the case.

Faridi had previously been detained in Esfand 1402 and released on bail after a short period. He was then charged with “propaganda against the regime” and sentenced to six months’ discretionary imprisonment; however, the case was later intensified and the charge upgraded to “corruption on earth.”
