Death Sentence Issued for a 22-Year-Old Student

University of Tabriz

Ehsan Faridi, a 22-year-old engineering student at the University of Tabriz, has been sentenced to death by Branch 2 of the Revolutionary Court of Tabriz, presided over by Judge Abdi, on charges of “moharebeh” (enmity against God). The verdict was issued based on reports from the Ministry of Intelligence and has also been upheld in the appeals court. The case has now been referred to the Supreme Court following an objection by his lawyer.

Faridi was arrested on June 18, 2024, after being summoned to Branch 15 of the Tabriz Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office. Following interrogation by the Ministry of Intelligence, he was transferred to Tabriz Prison, where he is currently held in Room 3 of the quarantine ward.

He had previously been arrested on March 8, 2024, and sentenced to six months in prison for “propaganda against the regime.”

Faridi’s family has stated that, out of concern for his mental well-being, they have not yet informed him of the death sentence. They also reported being pressured by Tabriz’s Intelligence Office to prevent the news of the sentence from being made public.
