
According to information received by Amirkabir Newsletter, at least 10 students from the Sohanak branch of Islamic Azad University have been suspended from their studies due to “critical comments on social media, failure to observe hijab, and eating or drinking during Ramadan.” These suspensions come amid a new wave of crackdowns at the Islamic Azad University of North Tehran.
Simultaneously, on the morning of Saturday, April 5, 2025 (Farvardin 16, 1404), the first day of university reopening after the Nowruz holidays, security officers were heavily present at campus entrances, subjecting female students to physical inspections and appearance evaluations. The identities of students deemed to have “inappropriate” attire by the security forces were recorded in detailed lists and referred to disciplinary committees for case-building.
Reports indicate that items such as the color of a manteau, style of headscarf, and having tattoos or piercings were considered “violations.” However, students have once again declared that they will not remain silent in the face of such pressure
