According to published reports, Ali Younesi, a Sharif University of Technology student and winner of the International Science Olympiad who is currently imprisoned, has been in complete incommunicado detention since June 18, 2025, following his sudden transfer from Ward 4 of Evin Prison. His family and close contacts have received no information about his whereabouts or condition since that day.
According to statements from Younesi’s cellmates, on Wednesday, June 18, he was taken from the Ward 4 kitchen in Evin Prison by security agents, who told inmates the transfer was for interrogation and that he would return shortly. Eleven days have passed, and no official or unofficial information has emerged about his fate.
At the same time, several other political prisoners have reportedly been transferred from Evin Prison to the Greater Tehran Central Penitentiary. Reports indicate extremely poor conditions in that facility, including limited access to water, food, and phone calls, as well as severe shortages of basic necessities such as medication and clothing. However, no information has surfaced regarding Ali Younesi’s fate following the raid on Evin Prison.
Previously, serious concerns had been raised by human rights activists regarding a 16-year prison sentence handed to Ali Younesi through a judicial process described as opaque and deeply flawed. In recent days, social media users have launched the hashtag Where Is Our Prisoner, expressing alarm over the unknown fate of numerous political prisoners and their families amid the escalation of war between the Islamic Republic and Israel.
