Full Support for the Nationwide Strike of Iranian Truck Drivers
Joint Statement by a Group of Organizations Active in the Iranian Student Movement
Wednesday, May 28, 2025 (7 Khordad 1404)
We, Iranian students and academics, will never forget the truth — the truth that has made us fully aware of the unbreakable bond between the Islamic Republic and incompetence, tyranny, repression, crime, and bloodshed.
The nationwide strike of Iranian truck drivers began on Monday, May 19 (29 Ordibehesht), when a group of drivers in Bandar Abbas staged a coordinated walkout. By blocking the entry and exit routes of the port, they lit the spark that millions across Iran had long been waiting for.
We clearly remember how, after the tragic explosion in Bandar Abbas, these same honorable truck drivers, through marches in various cities, expressed solidarity and sympathy with their fellow citizens and the families of their deceased colleagues.
Today, Iran’s truck drivers stand consciously and responsibly at the front line of a struggle that represents the demands of the people. This strike reflects the pain of a freedom-seeking nation and embodies its will to break free.
Professional associations and unions, as powerful social and economic forces, play a vital and strategic role in the civil resistance against the Islamic Republic. With their organizational capabilities, operational strength, and commitment to nonviolence, they offer a unique platform for protest, activism, and demands for justice.
We, the undersigned organizations within the Iranian student movement, declare our unwavering support and full solidarity with the striking truck drivers. We also call on all other associations, organizations, unions, and cultural, artistic, political, and social figures—both inside and outside the country—to loudly support this nationwide strike and amplify its voice across the world.
For a free and flourishing Iran…
Long live Iran.
