Following the publication of several critical tweets by Motahereh Gounei, a former student activist, reports received by Amirkabir Newsletter indicate that she has been arrested by security forces. This arrest occurred just hours after Gounei posted content on the social media platform X criticizing the Islamic Republic’s warmongering policies.
According to credible reports, since last night, multiple calls from anonymous numbers—believed to be linked to security agencies—were made to Motahereh Gounei’s mobile phone. These calls intensified after she published tweets expressing opposition to the Islamic Republic’s aggressive military stance. Following these calls, she was arrested a few hours ago and taken to an undisclosed location.
Sources close to the former student activist have also confirmed that her Twitter account became inaccessible a few hours after her arrest and that control of the account appears to have been taken over by intelligence agents.
These actions are taking place amid an increasingly repressive security atmosphere in the country, particularly as regional military tensions escalate. Security agencies are intensifying their crackdown on civil and political activists.
