Ongoing Catastrophic Food Quality in Universities

Bu-Ali Sina University, Hamedan

In the latest instance of the ongoing disaster in university food services across the country, the Student Council of Bu-Ali Sina University in Hamedan issued an official statement expressing regret over the “appalling, unacceptable, and unsanitary” condition of the university cafeteria.

The statement included images showing dangerous foreign objects in student meals, including glass, plastic, worms, and insects. According to the council, the use of spoiled and contaminated ingredients poses a serious threat to student health and represents a blatant violation of their basic rights.

Another part of the statement reads: “University officials! Would you allow your own children to eat this food? Do student lives mean anything to you?”

This statement comes amid a wave of similar reports from other universities in recent weeks. From a lizard found in the food at Kashan University of Medical Sciences (link) to a syringe cap in meals at Iran University of Science and Technology (link), these incidents highlight a nationwide crisis in Iran’s university welfare system. Such occurrences appear to be becoming an organized routine (link).

The statement concludes by emphasizing that the continuation of this situation is absolutely unacceptable and that university management will be held directly responsible for any harm caused to students.
