The Revolutionary Court of Mashhad (Branch 1) has formally issued a verdict against Dr. Mahshid Gohari, a researcher, author, and former lecturer at Ferdowsi University of Mashhad. Her lawyer, Seyed Hossein Paylakhi, was notified of the ruling in person.
According to the court’s decision, Dr. Gohari was convicted of “propaganda against the regime in favor of opposition groups” and sentenced to 9 months of discretionary imprisonment. However, the sentence has been suspended for two years.
The case was built around her literary and cultural gatherings, support for voluntary hijab, and related online activities. Her support for students during the protests of 2022 was also cited as a contributing factor in the prosecution.
Dr. Mahshid Gohari-Kakhaki is recognized as a prominent scholar in Persian literature and Ferdowsi’s Shahnameh. She was dismissed from Ferdowsi University due to her support for the “Woman, Life, Freedom” uprising and the #OptionalHijab movement.
