On the evening of June 8th, a group of students at the University of Tehran held a protest gathering and read a statement expressing their objection to the summer housing and food conditions.
In this statement, the students referred to the elimination of summer cafeteria meals and restrictions on dormitory access, describing these actions as violations of the right to free education and access to public facilities.
The main demands presented in the statement are as follows:
1. Provision of dormitory accommodation and related facilities for all incoming graduate students of the academic year 1403 (2024–2025).
2. Immediate reinstatement of the student cafeteria services during the summer, with the ability to reserve meals and access to at least one meal per day.
3. Immediate end to the policy of evacuating dormitories during the summer, and ensuring peace and security for students throughout the academic term and summer.
4. Rejection of the elimination of food and housing services without the approval of the Student Union Council, and the obligation of University of Tehran officials to be held accountable.
5. Emphasis on eliminating discrimination against students from underprivileged areas who are unable to return home.
In conclusion, the University of Tehran students called for an end to the commodification of university services and demanded that their union-related needs be met.
