Fahimeh Soltani, a law student at the University of Isfahan, was arrested on Wednesday, May 28, 2025 (7 Khordad 1404) and transferred to Dolatabad Prison in Isfahan to begin serving a one-year discretionary prison sentence.

The sentence had previously been issued by Judge Tavakkoli on the charge of “inciting war and bloodshed” and was upheld during both the appeals process and by the Supreme Court. In addition to this, Soltani has also been sentenced to two years of suspended imprisonment.

Soltani had previously been arrested in both 2022 and 2024, and in June 2023, she was banned from continuing her studies for two academic semesters by the University of Isfahan’s disciplinary committee. Following this disciplinary ruling, she shared her experience as part of the “Speak of Suspension” campaign, stating:

“Being left in limbo — not knowing whether I’ll return to university or not. Sometimes I feel hopeless, and sometimes full of rage. Being denied our basic rights, like the right to education, is deeply painful.”
