Two days have passed since the heartbreaking death of Zeynab Karimzadeh, a postdoctoral plasma physics student at Shahid Beheshti University, yet no response has been issued from the university’s public relations office or official media outlets. This young student, who was unlawfully housed alone in the married students’ dormitory despite regulations, ended her life on the night of Wednesday, September 5, by jumping from the eighth floor of the Daneshpajoohan dormitory.
This tragedy occurred just hours after a visit by the Minister of Science to the female students’ dormitory at Shahid Beheshti University, where Simaei Sarraf (Minister of Science) and Aghamiri (President of Beheshti University) engaged in a heated verbal dispute, blaming each other for the lack of basic amenities, including water for students to perform ablutions. This altercation, rather than addressing the students’ welfare and living conditions, turned into a public display of internal factional disputes within the criminal Islamic Republic regime, exposing the blatant disregard of Iran’s higher education system for the lives and well-being of its students.
While Zeynab Karimzadeh was grappling with suicidal thoughts, no support measures were taken for her, and her illegal placement in the married students’ dormitory stands as evidence of the negligence and irresponsibility of Shahid Beheshti University’s administration under the Islamic Republic regime. The deafening silence of the university and media in the face of this tragedy once again proves that, in the Islamic Republic regime, the lives of students—especially women—hold no value.
